About me
My name is Shannon Carlson. I am a CPA licensed in California and Nevada. I obtained both my BS and MS in accounting from the University of Southern California before spending four years with the Nevada office of a national firm, where I received top tier training and experience. When I relocated to Southern California, I joined a regional firm where I spent the next 29 years, serving as a tax partner for 17 of those years.
I was fortunate to work with a variety of clients, including high-net-worth individuals, entrepreneurs, corporations, partnerships and nonprofit organizations covering industries from manufacturing, retail and distribution to real estate, healthcare and human services.
Throughout my career, I served my community through volunteer service on several nonprofit boards, including the Fox Riverside Theater Foundation, the Riverside City College District Foundation, the Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center and the Inland Caregivers Resource Center, among others.
I retired from the regional practice in 2025 to help my family balance some significant changes and challenges. This has afforded me the opportunity to change my professional focus. I would like to utilize my years of experience to help small businesses, nonprofits, estates, trusts and conservatorships who are not yet large enough to need or afford the services a larger firm can provide, but who nonetheless need support. I can provide affordable guidance, training and hands-on assistance today, and I am uniquely positioned to provide connections to leading industry professionals for more comprehensive and complex service needs when they arise in the future.
I am also focused on helping the next generation of accounting professionals and non-accountants better understand the relevant tax and accounting issues of the day through speaking engagements, guest lecturing, adjunct teaching, and expert panelist participation as well as technical writing. I have served in this capacity throughout my career, and have had many opportunities to engage in discussion on important issues. Additionally, I have written articles for publications, websites and social media.
